Our Approach to Profile Improvement
Junk Profiles

Junk or "garbage" profiles have been a problem for the online dating world since the day online dating came into existence. It's an unfortunate reality but profiles created under false pretenses will find their way into almost every dating site. However, knowing that this is a reality does not mean that we at Supersocial will simply let it go unnoticed. One of the most important online dating requirements that the Supersocial team is currently focused on is minimizing the incidence of these so called "fake dating profiles". We recognize that nothing is more frustrating for an online dater than trying to determine whether a profile is real or not. So, in an effort to eliminate this headache we are

implementing certain checks and balances, and also providing users with certain capabilities to report suspicious activity. It's true that people will sometimes over inflate the truth about themselves, or they willmisrepresent who they are, and even submit a misleading photo. Dating is about presenting one's self in the best possible light, but sometimes this gets confused and the light becomes diluted. Meaning the "who or what we are" gets lost in the desire or the need to connect with people. We at Supersocial can't always correct this per se... but we will try as much as we can. We are focused on eliminating those profiles created for the purposes of soliciting money, services, or goods... profiles created for anything else other than dating or connecting with others.

The ultimate bottom line boils down to one simple point and that is... every Supersocial member should feel confident that the information provided to Supersocial has been screened to the greatest extent possible.

What Is Obviously Not Allowed?

It goes without saying that any information that is deemed to be abusive, offensive, threatening, hostile, menacing, harassing, sexually explicit, racially offensive, or hateful will be immediately removed. While the Supersocial team is open-minded, and understands that their user community comes from a diverse group of backgrounds, we also want to ensure members' personal profiles maintain a somewhat courteous and conscientious quality.

While we allow members to exchange personal information in their communications with one another, we prohibit including personal information such as phone numbers, physical addresses, email addresses, and instant message addresses in the personal profiles. This is meant to protect our users, and it's also meant to allow for some mystery to remain during the first and follow-on impressions. Not every online connection results in a face to face meeting or a date, and because of this, members should avoid sharing personal contact information with other members until there's a real connection and some established trust.

So, What Do We Do To Protect You?

We independently analyze every new profile that is submitted, and we review all content including the username, greeting, photos and videos, and the About Me and About My Match write ups. When we say we analyze, we mean we read every profile that is submitted to us, with human eyes. There are automated checks that we perform, but we do diligently spend the time thoroughly reading each line in every profile that comes our way.

We also enforce the validation of email addresses that have been submitted to us with any new profile registration. We want to avoid scenarios where bogus email addresses are used when registering with Supersocial.com. This will help deter some users from creating fake profiles. If we cannot validate a user's email address, they will not have the ability to communicate with other users. Once their email address has been validated, they will then be able to utilize Supersocial's various communications and event planning tools. While this does not completely eliminate the issue of "fake profiles" being created, we have determined that adopting a process of email validation significantly helps address the problem.

We utilize geographic information software to determine if a user's internet location correlates to the identified country and/or state they submitted in their profile. While this is not used as a basis for rejecting any one profile, it is used in conjunction with all of the criteria listed above to make a determination for approval.

Lastly, we read, read, read, and read every profile before they get approved. We feel it's important for our users to submit write-ups that provide some minimum information about themselves and what they look for in the other person. We only require 60 characters. Some users write more, some less... but if you want to be approved you have to write something. There's no getting away from it. In fact, we view writing as the online version of oral dialogue. A date can't be successful if both of you aren't talking, and the same holds true for the online world. Meeting someone can't be achieved successfully without some form of the written word. So, write... we'll read it, and so will others.

In Summary

Where possible, the Supersocial Team will continue to improve the steps it uses for screening and approving profiles. If you have any recommendation on this process, we would love to hear from you.
